I can get a GM employee family discount, and I can get a new Camaro RS 4 cylinder for not too much more than a FiST.
Dammit. I have told myself I will not buy a GM product, but I actually like these. And for what I could get one for makes a hell of a case.

Four cylinder Camero? Why do you hate America?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:08 |

It’s the hip thing to do.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:08 |

Have you driven both?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:08 |
|
I say yes because RWD
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:09 |
|
Nope, the 4 cylinder Camaro is just hitting lots. I have driven the FiST, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:10 |
|
But why not get the V8?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:10 |
|
A. I already have something for dirt hoonage that is RWD.
B. I don’t mind FWD. The FiST will get sideways.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:11 |

Price and I don’t actually like the drone of a V8.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:12 |

Commie

I about fell over when I saw who posted this.
Every review for the 4 cylinder I’ve read has been really positive. One’s probably in my no-too-distant future, honestly.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:13 |

What’s a Camero?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:14 |
|
Yep. The biggest problem for me is local dealers. All of them are asking over 30k for base 1LT auto 4 cylinders. I need the RS. I need a couple of options.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:15 |
|
I went from a FoST to a ‘16 Camaro. Never driven the FiST, imagine it's fun, but this new Camaro is pretty amazing. I think you would have a lot of fun with one. Plus the fit and finish of my Camaro is FAR better than the Focus.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:15 |
|
Okay so her’s the plan - You get a 4-bangermaro, I’ll keep my FiST, we go to rallycross and track day events and swap. Deal? Deal.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:16 |
|
As much as I like the new Alpha-chassis Camaro, I’d get the FiST if you already have a RWD hoon-mobile. The FiST is the highest trim level of the model and set up to be driven hard, while the 4cyl Camaro is the base-est of it’s trims, and set up as more of an economy car. Plus, you get 4 doors and a hatch with the FiST.
Just my $0.02. Good luck deciding!
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:19 |

Sideways in a FWD =/= sideways in a RWD
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:19 |
|
Something something Non-American something something. Also I don’t mind giving a car company a second chance...though I usually regret it.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:19 |
|
I should clarify, my RWD hoonmobile is an offroad hoonmobile, and has 4 doors and plenty of space.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:20 |

I just had the V6 Auto as a rental car and was honestly blown away. It’s still a Camaro. More importantly, it’s genuinely good. I loved it. Every time I got out of it I had a grin on my face.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:20 |
|
If I were slightly closer, I might be interested.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:20 |
|
My issue will come down to the dealers. All of the ones near me are marking them up.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:22 |
|
For our family, it would be chance number... 6 or 7. But suposedly it’s a “NEW” GM.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:22 |
|
Yeah, but I don’t really care about that too much in a daily driver.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:23 |
|
I don’t really care what car you buy, but the blue on that Chevy is FANTASTIC.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:24 |
|
You could always get the Camaro and once the real world value has depreciated to levels of the FiST, trade it in.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:24 |
|
I think you should just the V8 and capitalize of this position of opportunity
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:24 |
|
Prices are close enough that it would almost immediately reach that level.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:25 |
|
No thanks.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:26 |
|
No deal. I’ve driven the current muscle car lineup and they’re great cars but far too heavy for a turbo 4. Rwd is a definite plus but I would new-for-new FiST all day before I would 4bangermaro
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:27 |
|
I probably will, but I’m going to check out the Camaro first.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:29 |
|
I prefer Ford’s Kona Blue, but it is nice.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:30 |
|
JUST THE V8
I was joking im just having a weird day at work
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:30 |
|
Is there anything in the Camaro lineup akin to Ford’s EcoBoost? Like 300 HP from four cylinders?
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:31 |
|
Goodness. My local dealers are offering V6 1LT RS Tech Pack cars for under $30k already.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:35 |
|
The cheapest one near me is a
base
1LT auto for 30k. How I spec’d mine was still MSRP’d under 30k. That was with the black 20's, tech pack, and RS pack.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:36 |
|
Ah, I see... In THAT case, I’d either go for a new FiST, or an Ecoboost Mustang with the track pack. (idk if that’s in your price range) A used LS2/LS3 could be a good option too.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:36 |
|
Huh, maybe ordering one is your best bet, I didn’t have a mark up on mine. I know the ST’s can be had below MSRP fairly easily but dammit does it kill the re-sale value of them. If you get an ST make sure you plan on keeping it for awhile.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:36 |
|
Nope, just 275 hp/295 ft lbs and 200 lbs less to carry around.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:37 |
|
I had not heard about the new engine in the Camaro. It’s a heavy car, for sure, so drive one and let us know what you find out.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:37 |
|
Give it a month, they’ll be throwing cash on the hood. They always do.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:39 |
|
Oh right. I thought the family discount would be quite a significant amount. My old manager’s brother worked for Ford and got his son a hefty discount on a Focus. It’s only allowed on two cars in a given period.
I work for Walmart in the U.K. And we get a good discount (varied by make and model) on GM products (it was always funny as the discount applied to Vipers, Hummer H3s, etc... as well as Vauxhalls).
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:40 |
|
It’ll be May or June anyway. Hopefully that’s the case, but either way, the FiST is still an awesome car.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:41 |
|
The four cylinder Camaro has a power to weight ratio of 12.1 lb/hp. It’s not gonna set any records but that’s not really slow either. For the sake of argument though the FiST comes in at 13.7 lb/hp.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:41 |
|
Actually it’s around 3300 lbs, so it’s not too bad.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:42 |
|
I’ve planned on it.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:43 |
|
I get more car for the money with the Camaro, which is why I ruled out the Ecoboostang.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:44 |
|
Agreed on the FiST. I can’t say I’m a fan of the Fiesta’s interior design though, mostly the dash and it’s gargantuan size.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:44 |
|
I don’t have the discount of the Ford, but I do on the Chevy. The Chevy would end up being a couple of thousand more.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:46 |
|
There is no
glass
in that car. Just little gun slits.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:48 |
|
Unless you need a back seat and/or 4 doors, I literally see no reason to get the Fiesta over the camaro.
And I say that as a die hard ford guy.
FWD gets old. Don’t make the mistake that I, Kroll and many others made, AND BUY THE RWD SPORTS CAR
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:49 |

Only fools are brand loyal or brand phobic (I used to be a fool). Evaluate the vehicle on it’s merits, and then make your decision.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:49 |
|
It will probably come down to insurance and the dealerships.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:50 |
|
Oh well. I’m used to it from our work trucks.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:51 |
|
Sorry. I should of phrased it better. I was using my manager’ brother’s Ford family discount as an approximation of the possible discount you’d get from the GM family discount.
You’ve tried the FiST I think you need to do a long test drive on the Camaro. Do you have the option of an extended test drive (24 hours, take home) where you live.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:51 |
|
After 6 or 7 chances, there is a reason for my phobia.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:52 |
|
I do not that I know of.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:54 |
|
Light turbo rwd, you cant loose.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:55 |
|
But it’s competition is 600 lbs lighter, turbo, FWD, and loved by the world.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:57 |
|
Didn’t know you were considering a FiST.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:59 |
|
Lost me at fwd lol.
All joking aside though, these are two very different vehicles to have to choose from.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 11:59 |
|
Yep, plan(ned) on picking one up in May. But, this may change things a bit.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:02 |
|
Ive owned sooooo many GM cars, no major issues whatsoever.
I have nothing against other cars though.
Working in the auto industry, especially now. You learn that brand loyalty is a thing of the past. Everyone is in cahoots with each other.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:05 |
|
Ooohhh Insurance! I forget about that. Thats what kept me out of an LS1 Fbody in my teens.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:05 |
|
We’ve had 6 or 7 and almost all of them experienced a major failure of some sort.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:11 |
|
Fair enough!
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:15 |
|
Can only handle so many pre-100k mile transmission failures.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:31 |
|
Some people have terrrible luck lol thats sucks man. One of my customers had a Civic blow an engine, followed by a Corolla that hated headgaskets. No he has a brand new Kia that loves tow truck rides to the dealer. Feel bad for the dude.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:40 |
|
I think you’ll be disappointed in the FiST long term.
Sure it’s fun to drive, but it’s not a looker and is just a gussied up economy car at the end of the day. The Camaro turbo may be the ‘compromise’, but it’s still a RWD coupe. It has a certain cool factor the FiST will never have.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:41 |
|
I wouldn’t exactly call a Camaro “light” unless you’re comparing it to a Tahoe maybe
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:43 |
|
But GM is life
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:44 |
|
It’s probably going to come down to dealerships and insurance costs.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:47 |
|
To my family, GM is life of blown transmissions.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:48 |
|
The 6th gen Camaro’s weight at any given trim is within ~100lbs or so of the 2 series lineup.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 12:55 |
|
That’s why you get the manual.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:02 |
|
The Camaro is a lifestyle accessory. The FiST is a hauler that happens to have a ton of performance. On the right roads, the ST will outhandle any muscle car. But is that what you really want?
This is not a numbers or specs contest. It’s a question for your personal preference, and if you can afford either one, take money out of the equation.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:04 |
|
BMW 2 series? Wow, someone sure went on a diet.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:09 |
|
Oh, gotcha gotcha. The other car I just thought of is the Solstice GXP and Sky Redline. You can probably pick up one of those used for 15-20K in good shape, with a similar turbo 4cyl!
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:16 |
|
I want new.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:18 |
|
Practicality isn’t really a need for me, I just want a fun and efficient DD.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:22 |
|
Its advertised at 3339 lbs.
Tahoe is around 5500 lbs.
Fiest is 2720 lbs
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:24 |
|
haha Fair enough, sir.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:39 |
|
Yeah, it’s still heavier, don’t get me wrong. But it’s a narrow gap, and Camaro offers more...
enthusiastic
engine options for the price.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:43 |
|
sounds like you need that v6 track pack instead
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:51 |
|
Nah. I’m fine with the 4-cylinder. 5.4 to 60 is quicker than I’ll ever need, and since it’s a turbo 4, I can tune it if I want more.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:54 |
|
To further explain on ownership, I’ve owned an extremely slow, thirsty, and bouncy Toyota for nearly 5 years, and I have no plans of getting rid of it. I grow attached, so if it doesn’t just jump at me like the FiST did, I can pass over it without much thought. I want something that makes me want to keep it. I like character, and am very used to it.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 14:10 |
|
Stop buying the wrong GMs. Or not servicing your trannies.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 14:13 |
|
Well considering almost all GM’s of a certain era contained a shitty transmission, it’s kind of hard to do. Transmissions shouldn’t blow before 100k miles, especially not a bunch of them.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 14:17 |
|
Fair point. Some of those autos just weren’t good enough for all the punishment they got being in trucks and SUVs.
